-

MIRI: It is good to know the role played by pharmacists and how they make a difference in the healthcare system.

Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting said this when officiating at the launch of World Pharmacists Day 2017 at Bintang Megamall here yesterday.

“Pharmacists are professionals who play the role of managing medicine and supplements in the country.

“Like other professionals in the field, they have played their parts well in serving the people.

“The celebration of World Pharmacists Day can help people to understand who they are and what they do in the public or private sector,” said Ting.

World Pharmacists Day is said to be the brainchild of the International Pharmaceutical Federation at the 2009 meeting in Istanbul, Turkey, during the International Pharmaceutical Federation Congress (FIP).

The meeting has declared Sept 25 as World Pharmacists Day.

This year’s celebration goes with the theme ‘From research to healthcare: Your Pharmacist is at your service’. It features various booths and a gathering of more than 100 pharmacists, dentists, dieticians and other healthcare professionals offering their services and expertise to members of the public.

State Health Department (Pharmaceutical) deputy director Abu Hassan Alshaari Abd Jabar was also present at the function.

He lauded the organising committee from the state’s Health Department’s Pharmaceutical Services Division, Sarawak Pharmaceutical Society, Miri Polyclinic and Miri Hospital for making the event a huge success.

Head of pharmaceutical department of Miri Hospital Janice Goh, organising chairman Kamarudin Ahmad and representative of Sarawak Pharmaceutical Society Su Chii Leong were also present.
