KAPIT: The Chinese community here has been asked to support Barisan Nasional (BN) during the next parliamentary election.

According to Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat, political unity and harmony are necessary for a stable business environment.

“When we enjoy stability, then potential investors will come in to support our economy,” he said during the Kapit Chiang Hsia Huang Clan Association’s dinner on Friday.

He said Kapit folk should also avoid getting caught up in the politics of Peninsular Malaysia.

“In a remote area like Kapit, we don’t have to get tied up with the issues that are not related to the local situation. There are local issues that we need to address together, especially those that involve local development and the development programmes that benefit us. I would like to remind the people not to get involved with the issues that do not benefit them locally,” said Jamit.

He pointed out that Kapit has undergone tremendous physical development over the past six years under BN.

“Now we have road access to link Kapit to the rest of the state. Meanwhile, there are other programmes introduced by the government that benefit the people like BR1M, e-kasih, housing aid, minor rural project, 1Azam, and many others.

“As elected representatives, we feel that our present leadership, both the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak) and our Chief Minister (Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg), are truly people-centric, caring about the people especially in the rural areas,” he said.

Jamit said Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi – who is Kapit member of Parliament – has performed well over the years.

“We still need more development thus we need to have continuity in our leadership. The strong support from the people will help to ensure continuity in his leadership and it is our hope that he could have a better post in the federal cabinet,” added Jamit.
