Organisation projects 5,000 young entrepreneurs to join Congress GMB 2017

KUALA LUMPUR: The Successful Young Entrepreneurs Generation Entrepreneurs Organisation (GMB) is projecting 5,000 young entrepreneurs from throughout the country to join the Congress GMB 2017 via roadshows conducted in every state. President Agil Faisal Ahmad Fadzil said the Congress GMB 2017 roadshow had started in Kelantan and is expected to end on Nov 20. The one-day Congress is tentatively scheduled for the same date in either Sabah or Sarawak. “For the roadshow this time, we will go to two places in the states and not necessarily just the capital. For example, in Terengganu, we will be in Dungun and probably Kuala Terengganu, while for Perak, the Larut District (Matang Selama) is the likely place. “The roadshow will also see the participation of agencies under ministries such as the Halal Development Corporation, Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) and SME Corporation,” he told Bernama after the prelaunch ceremony of the GMB Congress 2017 here.

Through the roadshow, Agil Faisal said, GMB would identify the best products and locations for each place visited.

“This is for the purpose of commercialising and expanding the said products to the global stage.

“Through the Congress this time, GMB will also use the ecommerce approach in assisting entrepreneurs from secluded areas to take their products to a bigger market.

“We are also looking at enabling our products to be known in the eyes of the world as ‘Malaysian Products’, similar to South Korea and Japan.

Products from these two countries such as ramen and sushi are known the world over,” he added.

He said in countries such as Japan, the government had adopted a support system for every local company that markets its products overseas.

He added that there are also products in Malaysia with the potential to be marketed overseas such as petai, which is well known in Europe as an anti-oxidant.

Apart from petai, Agil Faisal said Malaysia also had a number of other ‘exclusive’ products such as gaharu and tongkat ali, with the potential for international demand if effectively comercialised.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry, Datuk Ahmad Maslan suggested that the GMB Congress this time pays more attention to the Industry 4.0 or e-commerce sector which is developing quickly in the country.

Met at the same event, he also urged Congress to seriously consider elements of the National Transformation 2050 in line with its objective of targeting young entrepreneurs.

The Congress GMB 2017 is a continuation of the Congress Muda 2014 and 2015 which succeeded in drawing over 7,000 entrepreneurs from throughout Malaysia and themed, ‘Economy Unites Us’ in 2014 followed by ‘Heading to the Global Stage’ a year later.

The Congress GMB 2017 seeks a perfection of both earlier themes by bringing in a new spirit, a new echo and new ‘Global Business Mindset’ to push local entrepreneurs to develop an international mindset.

The Congress GMB 2017 will feature an international products and services exhibition embracing the automotive, construction, electrical and electronic industries as well as fashion and lifestyle, food and beverage and banking services, among others. — Bernama
