Rep welcomes setting up of ministry office in Betong
BETONG: Layar assemblyman Gerald Rentap Jabu welcomes the setting up of a Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism office here.
Gerald Rentap said it will bring convenience to the people in Betong who can then monitor prices closely.
“We hope the officers responsible will give positive response to the suggestion to open a branch office here.
“We also hope traders don’t raise prices as they like as it will burden the people,” he said at the opening of the Entrepreneur Showcase, Consumerism Carnival and ACSJ IV Betong 2017 at the festival ground in Medan, Bandar Baharu near here on Friday night.
Speaking on the annual event, Gerald Rentap said it is an opportunity for Betong folks to try out entrepreneurship which can increase the family income.
He welcomes support from everyone to give the local community a chance to better themselves and increase their incomes.
At the same time, he urged the people to promote their products online as suggested by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“We are urged to be prepared to use the Sarawak Pay programme which is an e-wallet system for business transactions via broadband.”
The carnival is jointly hosted by the ministry, Betong Resident’s Office, Bumiputera Enterpreneur Development Council and Betong District Council to name a few.
