Lions continue to serve the community

SIBU: Lions Club of Sibu Pahlawan president Kevin Lau assures that the club members will continue to better serve the community.

“In line with the motto of Lions club, our foremost commitment is to serve the community and today, we are gathered here to be part of lions contributi­ng to millions across the world,” he said.

Lau was speaking at the launching of the Centennial Service Challenge Projects at Methodist Children Home (MCH) yesterday morning.

It was jointly organised by Guangdong Leshan Lions Club, Manila Allied Lions Club, Lions Club of Kota Budaya and Lions Club of Sibu Pahlawan.

Among the activities were tree planting, eye screening for students of MCH, recycling design contest and peace poster contest.

Lau said Lions around the world are tasked to reach Centennial Service Challenge goal of serving more than 100 million people by June 2018.

“This morning, we carried out four centennial service challenge by engaging our youths in MCH, planting trees and recycling items to protect the environmen­t and sharing the vision and relieving hunger by sharing food with our young friends here.”

Lau said they were not doing the project simply as a challenge but also to acknowledg­e how their efforts could impact today’s youth.

“This is because we want to build a better world for them as they are our future.”
