SSD to hold public awareness exhibition­s

KUCHING: The Sarawak Society for the Deaf (SSD) has lined up interestin­g activities for its upcoming ‘SSD Public Awareness Exhibition Booth’ aimed at creating public awareness on deaf culture and showcase their skills as well as talents.

SSD chief administra­tive officer Ernest Ting said exhibition­s will be held at the Boulevard shopping mall on November 25 and at Vivacity mall from December 16 to 17. He said the events also aim to raise fund for SSD.

Exhibition booths will include ‘Introducti­on to Deaf Culture and Sign Language’, sale of artwork, crafts, aluminium, furniture and homemade cakes by the deaf and sand art. The society previously held similar exhibition­s at tHe Spring shopping mall on September 3 and at the Kuching Sentral on September 10.

SSD is a non-profit charitable organisati­on which depends on the generosity of the public, corporate bodies, business entities, clubs, associatio­ns and also the government for funds to carry out its activities and projects.

“The activities that we have held or will be holding are part of our fund raising projects public awareness campaign on deaf culture and to showcase the skills and talents of our members,” he said.

He said the society will also be having exhibition booths at the CityONE Megamall and Plaza Merdeka, at dates to be confirmed later.
