250 longhouse chiefs, councillors attend leadership seminar
SIBU: A total of 250 longhouse chiefs and councillors from Tamin state constituency attended a leadership seminar for community leaders at Selangau multi-purpose hall near here recently.
The participants were from areas such as Siong, Batang Oya, Tamin, Selangau, Dijih, Balingian and Mukah.
During the seminar, the village chiefs were taught on how to improve tasks as ‘ Tuai Rumah’ especially on protocol, seeking government grant or project, managing the village security and development committee (JKKK), longhouse welfare and so on.
The seminar was jointly organised by Tamin Service Centre and Selangau Women and Family Development bureau.
Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira officiated at the closing ceremony.
In his speech, Gira urged all community leaders to make use of knowledge gained from the seminar as a way to improve the management of longhouse folks especially the JKKK.
“Additionally, focus to bring more development to Tamin constituency since this constituency is still in need of many facilities such as road, electricity, treated water supply, government offices, sports (facilities) and so on,” Gira said.
He urged them to work together for the development and progress of their community.
Among those present were district officer Inting Nyami and local community leaders.
