-

KUCHING: The state Information Department is set to roll out a series of activities in view of the next general election.

Its director Abang Sardon Abang Hashim believed that the polls would approach soon.

“If it’s not held this year, it would be called next year. We will plan and line up a lot more activities for the Puncak Borneo for the government,” he said at the department’s ‘Jalinan Kasih Rakan Strategik’ luncheon for Puncak Borneo parliamentary constituency at a hotel here yesterday.

Abang Sardon was quick to point out that his department would not be involved in any political campaigning for the government.

“What we do is not political campaigning, but some community- based activities to instil the ‘ feel good’ spirit in the people.”

He said the department would be committed to carrying out various activities for the local communities, be they in the urban or rural areas. He added that Information Department Sarawak would look forward to further collaborations with the 1Malaysia Community ( K1M) towards having more meaningful programmes for the people.

“I hope the collaboration between K1M and the Information Department Sarawak would carry on. There is a lot more that we can deliver,” he said.

On the luncheon, Abang Sardon said it was a show of appreciation to all individuals who had served as agents for the government at the community level.

“I’m aware that Sunday is a day for Christians to go to church, and I thank you all for being here today ( yesterday). Most of you came from afar and I appreciate that,” he added.

Among those present were state Information Department deputy director Ali Suhaili and Iinformation officer for Kuching, Samarahan and Serian, Normala Juatan.
