Big bikers and pillion riders ride to raise funds in DGR
KUCHING: More than 150 big bikers and pillion riders participated in the ‘Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride’ ( DGR) from here to Bau yesterday.
Event co-organiser Yen Dominic said the 40-km convoy ride was aimed at raising funds as well as awareness about male prostate cancer and mental health, and also to support the ongoing Tasik Biru Festival in Bau.
“This is a worldwide event which is held on Sept 24 every year; we are going to ride in dapper style to show that we are different and also to show the public that big bikers are not thugs or gangsters
This is a worldwide event which is held on Sept 24 every year; we are going to ride in a dapper style to show that we are different and also to show the public that big bikers are not thugs or gangsters at all. We are all professionals here. Dominic Yen, ‘Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride’ (DGR) co-organiser
at all. We are all professionals here,” he said.
According to Yen, the ride is organised by Rogue Squadron MC which was set up seven years ago.
“This ride was started in 2014 by our co- organiser Tuah Ibrahim, and this is the first time we are taking over the organising of the event.
“The majority of the participants are from Kuching, with (there are) also some from Sri Aman, Sibu and Miri. Most of the bikes are custom bikes, big bikes, choppers, classics and modern classics,” added Yen.
Tuah, meanwhile, said he was pleased to see the increasing number of participants each year.
He learnt of the DGR through Facebook and participated in the event in Kuala Lumpur in 2013.
The big bikers gathered at Plaza Merdeka Shopping Mall before proceeding to Borneo Superbikes, where they were briefed on the rules and safety procedures prior to the ride.
