SIBU: The open space at the ‘ Pasar Tamu’ in Sibu Central Market is strictly for traders to sell local produce, according to Sibu Municipal Council’s Market and Petty Traders Standing Committee chairperson Wong Hie Ping.

“Some people were found selling clothes there recently,” she told reporters after attending a full council meeting yesterday.

She added: “We wish to remind the public that the open space for ‘ Pasar Tamu’ is actually for the sale of local produce.

“Perhaps, some folk may think that they could make use of the open space to sell other products.”

She warned that goods that were not supposed to be sold there would be confiscated.

Meanwhile, Wong, who is the Borneo Talent Award ( BTA) 2017 organising chairperson, disclosed that a total of 10 entries each have been selected from Kota Kinabalu ( KK) and Miri.

She recalled there were 44 participants taking part in the audition in KK and 55 in Miri.

“The 10 entries each from KK and Miri consisted of groups and individuals selected to enter the semi-finals. In fact, we don’t specify how many number from which town because we are selecting according to performances,” Wong explained.

Adding on, she said the auditions for Kuching (Oct 7), Bintulu (Oct 14) and Sibu (Oct 15) are still open for registration.

The semi- finals will be held on Oct 24 while the final on the following day, both at Sibu Civic Centre.
