KMC Flat units not for everybody, stresses mayor

-

KUCHING: The KMC Flat units are meant only for qualified people, stresses Kuching South Mayor Datuk James Chan.

He pointed this out during the Kuching South City Council ( MBKS) meeting here yesterday, where he said the application for the flat units is only open to ‘qualified people’.

“These flat units are not for ‘everyone’ – the present residents cannot live there forever,” he said.

Chan acknowledged that his deputy Hilmy Othman had held a dialogue with KMC Flat tenants prior to the rebuilding project.

The mayor said MBKS would hold more sessions with the people before it could carry out any project to avoid complaints.

He said the dialogues are necessary to avoid misunderstanding and also to prevent certain quarters to politicise the issue.

Meanwhile, Chan said reports of the meeting showed that MBKS had been doing a good job in maintaining the facilities in areas under its jurisdiction.

One example of this was the prompt removal of fallen trees along roads, conducted in cooperation with Sarawak Energy Bhd.

Chan also advised people to inform MBKS should they see any lorry dumping its load like rocks by the road.

“As this poses dangers to motorists, the council strives to act fast to clear it (road) to avoid accidents.”

Chan said MBKS would do its best to deal with the drainage problem at some neighbourhoods here upon receiving complaints from the residents.

“We hope the people would give their cooperation to MBKS towards making Kuching a liveable city.”
