Bintulu Lantern Carnival 2017 promises fun-filled week

BINTULU: Various fun- filled activities have been lined up for the Bintulu Lantern Carnival 2017 at Naim Bintulu Paragon Street Mall from today ( Sept 26) til Oct 1.

The activities for this evening include Bintulu Food Fair 2017, multi- racial cultural performanc­es and Sarawak, Sabah and Brunei singing competitio­n.

Bintulu Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing will declare open the carnival this evening while Minister for Utilities Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom will officiates at the lighting of the lantern ceremony at 6.30pm tomorrow.

Other activities lined up include Lion Dance competitio­n (Sept 28), children talents audition (Sept 28), hip hop dance competitio­n ( Sept 29); Malaysia Book of Record for Longest Moon Cake Line ( Sept 30); Maju Sarawak Run ( Sept 30); tanglung harmony ride (Sept 30); lantern making competitio­n and Bintulu mural art prize giving ( Oct 1) and firework display at 9.30pm on Oct 1.

“I hope the state government through the relevant agencies will give us more support financiall­y to organise the carnival next year,” said Federation of Registered Chinese Associatio­n ( Forca) Bintulu chairman Hii Toh Him during a press conference at Naim Paragon office yesterday.

“Forca has been organising this event for the last eight years as part of our effort and commitment to promote the town and to foster greater unity and understand­ing between the people of different races in Sarawak,” Hii added.

He therefore urged the people from all walks of life to visit the carnival site as there will be many interestin­g programmes and performanc­es.

“Let us together continue to foster greater unity through this kind of event,” Hii added.

Meanwhile Bintulu Developmen­t Authority ( BDA) public relation officer Muammar Quaddafi Abdul Razak said BDA and other relevant government agencies would continue supporting Forca as the main organiser for the carnival.

“We have been in partnershi­p with Forca in organising this event for the past eight years and it is one of the signature events in Bintulu apart from Borneo Internatio­nal Kite Festival which we also organise on the same week with the lantern carnival.

“It will be a festive week for us, during the day time the people can enjoy kite flying activities while at night we have this lantern carnival with various cultural performanc­es and competitio­ns,” he said.

Muammar welcomes all people to come to the two events and enjoy it with their families and friends.

Also present at the press conference were Bintulu District officer Mataip Sayu and other members of the organising commitee.
