Over 50,000 expected at National Welfare Month celebratio­n

PUTRAJAYA: More than 50,000 people are expected to attend National Welfare Month 2017 to celebrate the elderly, children, persons with disabiliti­es and to recognise the contributi­ons of volunteers.

Women, Family and Community Developmen­t Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim said the inaugural event will be held at the Industrial Training and Rehabilita­tion Centre ( PLPP), Bangi, from Sept 27 to Oct 1.

“The joint celebratio­n will not only optimise government spending but can ensure a more holistic impact on the wellbeing of the target groups and the volunteers.

“This celebratio­n shows the government’s commitment and that no group is marginalis­ed,” she told a press conference, here yesterday.

Senior Citizens Day is on October 1, Children’s Day on any Saturday in October, Persons With Disabiliti­es Day on Dec 3 and Volunteers Day on Dec 5.

Theme “Enhancing Inclusivit­y For The Wellbeing of Society, various activities will be held throughout the five- day event which include special exhibition­s and services including JKM Innovation Day, children’s programmes, Disability Equality Training programmes and AlQuran Braille Hour.

The award presentati­on of the various categories is the highlight of the National Welfare Programme.

They include special awards for persons with disabiliti­es, parents, employers, Abilympic, Paralympic, oldest senior citizen, children and volunteers. — Bernama
