Dept to coordinate data collation at all levels

-

SUNGKAI: The Department of Statistics will coordinate the data collation procedure at all levels to ensure its consistency, said Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri S K Devamany.

He said the coordination of data collection which included Bumiputera participation in the economy, gender population statistics and tourism were important to be used as the country’s development and wellbeing indicators.

“These data are important as they could be used at the international level, subsequently putting the country in a specified place, which could attract foreign investment,” he said.

He said this to reporters after launching the Economic Census Parameter 2016 and Statistics That Drive State Prosperity and Wellbeing: Facing Future Challenges seminar at the Malaysia Statistical Training Institute here yesterday.

The two-day seminar beginning yesterday was attended by 200 participants including officers from the state Economic Planning Unit and representatives from each economic corridor.

Devamany said the move to coordinate would also help in reducing the gaps in gross domestic product through the data provided.

“The state government with less encouraging data, for instance, poverty, would be helped so that they can continue to compete to ensure development for the country and the corridor involved,” he said. Besides that, he said data collection that was accurate and coordinated was also important to avoid being manipulated by irresponsible parties. — Bernama
