BINTULU: Members of the public are invited to be ‘ friends’ of the Malaysian Anti- Corruption Commission ( MACC) by joining the ‘Anti- Corruption Revolution Movement’ (Gerah).

According to state MACC deputy director Zulhairy Zaidel, Sarawak has registered the highest membership at 7,300 ‘ friends’ since the movement’s launch on Aug 1 this year.

Behind Sarawak is Negeri Sembilan with 5,000 members.

“We welcome people from all walks of life, aged 18 and above, to register and be our friends.

“The ‘Friends of MACC’ serve as the ‘eyes and ears’ of MACC – to report any corrupt practice or misconduct, contribute energy in the fight against corruption and become role models of integrity,” he spoke at ‘Kembara Jelajah AntiRasuah 2017 ( Kejar)’ in Surau Darul Islam of Kampung Jabai here yesterday.

The MACC convoy arrived from Miri and headed to Sibu, before reaching its last stop at Kuching.

The f lag- off was performed by Bintulu Resident Muhamad Yakup Kari.

On the convoy, Zulhairy said it was the first organised by MACC in collaboration with the state government for the agency’s 50th anniversary.

He said one of the objectives of the convoy was to promote Gerah to the public, apart from sharing the message of anti- corruption and prevention of power abuse.

“Under this convoy programme, senior MACC officials will be travelling to all divisions to garner support from the people to be united in the fight against corruption,” he said.

The convoy kicked of f in Limbang last Sunday ( Sept 24) and should reach the Teachers Training Institute ( IPG) Tun Abdul Razak Campus in Kota Samarahan tomorrow (Sept 28).

Meanwhile, Muhamad Yakup viewed the ‘Kejar 2017’ programme as a very good plat form to inculcate greater awareness and understanding in the people, especial ly local community leaders, of the MACC, its roles and what they (the people) could contribute to fight corruption and power abuse.

The flag- off here was witnessed by ASP Arman Khan who represented Bintulu police chief and MACC Bintulu chief Marcel Bulan Ngabong.
