SIBU: The inaugural Mountain Bike Challenge 2017 will be the highlight of the coming Pesta Sibu Jaya, according to Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai.

He said some 100 individuals from across Sarawak have confirmed participation.

“The festival will run from Oct 6 till 8,” Sempurai told a press conference after a full council meeting yesterday.

He said Sibu Jaya Mountain Bike Challenge and other extreme sport events also have a big potential to become a platform for Sarawak to find the hidden local talents to represent Sibu and Sarawak in Extreme Sport Game and XGame, Sukma or even at the SEA Games in the future.

“We are giving local youths an avenue to get active in extreme sports. Hopefully, it can also bring about brisk business to businesses in the area,” he pointed out.

Pesta Sibu Jaya, organised by SRDC, will feature events like Strongman Challenge, Miss Sibu Jaya Beauty Contest, Battle of the Band, Hash Run, Tug of War, Explore Race, Mr Body Smart, Eating Competition, Big Bike Show, Auto Show, 3x3 Basketball Challenge, Zumba, Kid Fashion Show, Flower Decoration Competition, English Reading and Telematch, Kite Flying Show, Fancy Dress/Superhero and Superwoman Dress.
