‘Urda set to bring more progress to Kapit’

- By James Ling reporters@theborneopost.com

KAPIT: Kapit will see greater development through the setting up of Upper Rajang Development Agency ( Urda).

The rapid progress is made possible by the good relationship between the component parties of Barisan Nasional ( BN) in the division, unlike in the past when the parties fought among themselves, causing the division to be sidelined without roads and other infrastructure, making Kapit like a ‘pulau’ only accessible by river.

Parti Rakyat Sarawak ( PRS) president Tan Sri Datuk Amar James Masing, who is Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Infrastructure Development and Transportation, said this when officiating at the launch of the election machinery for Hulu Rajang parliamentary constituency at Dewan Sri Baleh here recently.

The function was attended by hundreds of PRS members and supporters. Also present were representatives from other BN component parties.

Among them were Kapit MP Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong, Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong, Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai, Samalaju assemblyman Majang Renggi, former Hulu Rajang MP Datuk Billy Abit, political secretaries to the chief minister Nicholas Kudi, Michael Mujah and Beatrice Kedoh, Kapit Resident Joseph Belayong, Bukit Mabong district officer Douglas Pungga and local community leaders.

Masing also said the people in Kapit would be connected to the outside world through SibuKapit road which connects to the Pan-Borneo Highway when both projects are completed.

Hulu Rajang is the stronghold of PRS as the three state seats under it are won by the party and holders of the seats — Masing ( Baleh), Datuk Liwan Lagang (Belaga) and Kennedy Chukpai (Murum) have pledged their support for Ugak.

Incumbent Ugak is expected to defend the seat he won in the 2013 General Election.

Based on the results of the last state election, Ugak is expected to win the seat with a big majority this time.

Masing was glad that all BN component parties were present during the launch.

“The presence of all BN component parties here — PRS, PBB, SUPP and PDP – shows unity among us. Therefore, there is no reason BN can lose in Hulu Rajang because all four of us are together and united,” he said.
