Parti Keadilan Rakyat seeks to sue state government for banning its leaders
MIRI: Parti Keadilan Rakyat ( PKR) is studying the law in order to sue the state government and Immigration Department for banning its Peninsular Malaysia leaders from entering the state on Saturday.
PKR Women’s chief Zuraida Kamaruddin and Petaling Jaya Selatan Member of Parliament Hee Loy Sian were refused entry at Miri Airport, while Kuala Sepetang assemblywoman Chua Yee Ling was escorted from PKR’s Pink Diamond dinner and then deported to Kuala Lumpur.
It is said that PKR vice- president Nurul Izzah Anwar chose not to come to Sarawak as she predicted being turned away like the trio.
“We are consulting our party’s legal advisers to sue the state government and Immigration Department for abuse of power and banning the four PKR YBs from Peninsular Malaysia attending the dinner,” said PKR Miri chief and Miri Member of Parliament Dr Michael Teo.
“If the authorities concerned banned the four before the flight from Kuala Lumpur to Miri, it is probably better rather than when they have already arrived in Miri Airport and then banning them and deporting them back on the next flight.”
Dr Teo claimed the banning of the leaders disrupted the dinner.
“A lot of people attending the dinner said the action of the authorities concerned is very undemocratic as it caused chaos among those present,” he said.
“This banning has happened so many times and we will continue to consult our lawyers on how we can stop this from happening again and again.”
