Thief exposed on CCTV recording

LIMBANG: The mystery of missing cash from a retail shop here on Monday was solved through viewing footage recorded on closed- circuit TV (CCTV).

Limbang District Police Chief Superinten­dent Mohd Bukhori Saffai said the proprietor of the shop found RM220 cash missing from the cash register on Tuesday morning.

The proprietor checked his shop’s CCTV recording and found that the culprit was one of his own staff so made a police report at 8.44am on the same day.

“But the male suspect, 31, whose identity was known disappeare­d and efforts are being taken to find him,” he told reporters yesterday.

The case is being investigat­ed under Section 381 of the Penal Code.

In an unrelated case, a man was caught behind an entertainm­ent outlet at Buangsiol Road at 3.05pm on Tuesday afternoon on suspicion of operating an illegal four- digit lottery.

Mohd Bukhori said the suspect was detained by a team of his personnel from the Crime Investigat­ion Department, Limbang District Police Headquarte­rs.

Among the items confiscate­d were RM105 cash, a handphone and a handphone SIM card as well as a piece of paper with lottery numbers written on it.

The case is investigat­ed under Section 4A(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.
