Samsung ranks 6th in Interbrand’s Best Global Brands 2017
KUALA LUMPUR: Samsung Electronics yesterday announced it is now ranked number six on Interbrand’s Best Global Brands 2017 list with a brand value of US$ 56.2 billion – one position up and a nine per cent increase from last year.
Samsung has been ranked one of the top 10 brands on the Interbrand rankings from 2012 to 2017, demonstrating continual growth in brand value worldwide.
This year’s achievement is particularly meaningful given some of the challenges that Samsung has faced, and overcome, in the past year.
Interbrand, in its evaluation, cited various examples including Samsung’s exemplary, fast recovery from last year’s Galaxy Note7 crisis, the company’s successful launches of flagship products, and its continued stellar financial performance.
In particular, Samsung’s mobile business reaffirms its market leadership with the successful launch of the Galaxy S8. Samsung’s memory division also performed strongly, with record profits contributing to the rise in brand value.
Samsung’s digital appliance business introduced innovative and award-winning new products, developed from deep consumer insights, like the Family Hub refrigerator and AddWash washing machine.
Samsung’s visual display division also broke new ground in the TV market with the new QLED TV as well as The Frame, a new lifestyle TV for the home.
“Our efforts to make meaningful progress to improve people’s lives contributed to the rise in brand value,” CMO of Samsung Electronics CMO YH Lee pointed out in a press statement.
“Our ranking this year is a positive sign that demonstrates our efforts to regain trust have resonated with global consumers,” Lee added.
This year’s Interbrand’s Best Global Brands will be announced at the World Trade Center in New York City on September 27.
Samsung’s growth in Brand Value in 2017 was at US$ 56.249 million compared to US$ 51.808 million in 2016 and US$ 45.297 million (2015).
In the year 2012 it was US$ 32.893 million, US$ 39.610 million (2013) and US$ 45.462 million (2014).
The brand was ranked seventh for three consecutive years: in 2104, 2015 and 2016.
It was ranked ninth and eighth in 2012 and 2013 respectively.
