St Francis’ Church to hold Parish Sale

KUCHING: St Francis’ Church at Jalan Dato Mohd Musa in Kota Samarahan will hold its Parish Sale on Sunday ( Oct 1) from 8am to 4pm.

Priest-in- charge Revd Dennis Gimang said proceeds from the event will go to the church’s RM5 million building project.

“The new church building plan has been approved by the authoritie­s and we are now looking for potential contractor­s to take up the project.

“We hope members of the public, regardless of denominati­onal affi liation, will come to support the sale and more importantl­y spend the day enjoying the food and fun and fellowship with each other,” he said yesterday.

“The present church has to be demolished to give way to the new church building. Immediatel­y after the Parish Sale, we shall call for tender for the contract.

“We hope to start building the new church before end of the year, and by then the congregati­on will use the parish hall for Sunday Services.”

For the Parish Sale, 30 stalls will be set up around the church compound, with all 13 chapels in the parish, which covers Muara Tuang and Asajaya districts, participat­ing.

“A variety of fresh jungle and farm produce as well as homemade delicacies will be on sale. Both cash and printed coupons for the sale can be used to purchase local rice and kuih, pansuh babi, lemang, chicken curry, fresh river crabs and prawns, lukan, laksa, paklo pork, pork satay, roasted duck, nipah palm, and coconut shoots just to name a few.

“For those who wish to showcase their singing talents, there will a karaoke session and entertainm­ent provided for them. There will be attractive prizes for those who win the lucky draw.

“The first, second and third prizes will be a Panasonic 43” LED television, fully automatic Panasonic ( 9.0kg) washing machine, and a refrigerat­or respective­ly. There will be 10 consolatio­n prizes.”

He said books such as the ‘ Surat Spiritual Communion’ for chapels, the ‘Revised Surat Sambiang Rama’, ‘Surat Sambiang Ngintu Pemati’ and ‘Surat Sambiang Jalai Regang’ for Good Friday printed by St Francis’ Church will also be on sale.

The public can park their vehicles along the stretch near the church at Jalan Dato Mohd Musa or enter from Lorong 9D Unigarden, Kota Samarahan, which leads to the car park at the rear of the church.

“Due to the sale, the English Service this Sunday will start at 6.30am and not at 6.45am as on other Sundays.

“The Iban Service will start at 8.15 am. There will be no Bahasa Malaysia service in the evening,” added Dennis.
