SIBU: Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism ( KPDNKK) here has acted on 127 cases and confiscated goods worth RM722,062.24 during the first nine months of this year.
KPDNKK Sibu branch chief Kasim Mana said the cases taken up were for flouting of various Acts with compounds collected amounting to RM 27,350.00
He, however, observed that majority of the traders here are giving good cooperation to the ministry.
“Most traders comply with the law and orders. Some of the cases are taken because they (traders) are careless for example, forgot to renew their licences or recalibrate their weighing machines. If they are not sure about the latest laws andprocedures as traders– they can come to our office for assistance,” Kasim said yesterday.
Giving the breakdown of the statistics, he said Weights and Measures Act 1972 recorded the most cases at 48.
He noted there were 45 cases of non- compliance with the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011.
As for Trade Descriptions Act 2011, he revealed that there 28 cases which they had acted on.
Turning to Control of Supplies Act 1961, he said they had taken up two cases.
There was one case that infringed the Copyright Act 1987 and three cases that flouted the Consumer Protection Act 1999.
Kasim advised the public to call 084- 329202 or 084- 335622 if they spot any hike in the price of essential items or other unhealthy business practices.
