Lee, Mirabel shine at KGM Amateur Golf Championsh­ip

MIRI: Lee Ka Tung has once again proved his supremacy in the 29th Miri Golf Club ( KGM) Amateur Golf Championsh­ip 2017 by winning the Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam Challenge Trophy recently.

Lee won the championsh­ip for three consecutiv­e years with a score of 207 in the Men Section 54 Holes Gross Event.

A total of 171 gol fers from Sarawa k , Saba h , Brunei , Peninsular Malaysia and France took part in the tournament.

Finishing 15 strokes ahead of runner up Hassan Rahmat, Lee broke his own and Sarawak golf championsh­ips’ records by playing nine strokes under par which is by standard has reached a profession­al level.

Meanwhi l e , 1 2 - ye a r - old Mirabel Ting Ern Hui emerged as champion in the Ladies Section 54 Holes Gross Event with a score of 220.

She walked away with Datin Patinggi Puan Sri Datuk Lorna Enan Muloon Challenge Trophy.

The talented youngster has dominated the ladies tournament in the state this year, and is expected to reign the Borneo golfing scene at least for the next seven years if she chose to keep on with the sport.

She also has the potential to become a pro and a top national player in the near future.

Meanwhile, Wee Yam Khoon and Helen Lai won the Men and Lady Invited Guest Section respective­ly.

There was no winner for the RM280,000 hole- in- one prize, sponsored by Chan and a local golfer.
