PM pays tribute to security personnel for ensuring peace
PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak yesterday paid tribute to the Malaysian Armed Forces and Royal Malaysian Police for their role in safeguarding the country.
Without them, the Prime Minister said, the people would not see such level of security that had enabled the nation to enjoy peace.
He said in this regard, Malaysia managed to achieve a 5.8 per cent growth in its national gross domestic product in the second quarter of this year, which was among the highest in the world.
“We are also 29th among 193 most peaceful countries in the world according to the Global Peace Index and in 23rd spot in the world’s list of most competitive economies.
“This would not have been possible without peace and security, and hence why in my view, it is incumbent on us to acknowledge without fail the sacrifices made by our national warriors,” he said in his speech at the Warriors Day 2017 celebration at Dataran Pahlawan Negara here yesterday.
Also present were Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, Armed Forces chief Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor and InspectorGeneral of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.
Six hundred and six security force personnel also enlivened the occasion with their

presentations.
The prime minister also said the struggle and sacrifices of the security forces should not just be acknowledged on certain occasions but daily.
He recalled the time when security forces fought with the communists, faced a bloody tragedy on May 13, 1969, shielded the country from al-Maunah, Daesh, IS and al- Qaeda terrorist attacks, and the militant intrusion in Lahad Datu, Sabah in 2013.
“Their deeds and sacrifices must be entrenched in the mind of every citizen, and as a government, we will do our best to study all aspects where their welfare and well-being are concerned, including those who have retired,” he said.
Meanwhile, Najib also hoped retired security force personnel would continue to maintain and display their fighting spirit as warriors particularly for the younger generation in the National Transformation 2050 (TN50) to emulate.
In this way, he said, the TN50 generation could internalise such spirit of heroism to guide them in leading Malaysia towards its vision of being among the 20 most advanced nations in the world.
“The first thing to bear in mind is the existing security and peace, which must be safeguarded at all costs as the success of every aspiration and planning is contingent on them,” he said. — Bernama
