Directory of Sibu Division Chinese community leaders available

SIBU: Sibu Resident Office is distributi­ng some 2,000 copies of its Directory of Sibu Division Chinese Community Leaders mostly to heads of government department­s and associatio­ns said Resident Hii Chang Kee.

“Members of the public may obtain it through the associatio­ns or via our website at www. sibu. sarawak. gov. my,” Hii told reporters when met after the launch of the directory at Sibu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry ( SCCCI) building here.

He hoped that the directory would help the public know their community leaders.

and effectivel­y, we assigned you a zone but you should by no means restrict your services to the assigned zone,” he told the community leaders.

“For the Iban or bumiputra, they have ketua kampung and tuai rumah. Their areas are clear cut.

“However, for Chinese in the urban area, we need clearer delineatio­n. If need be, we will do the same directory for the kampung and longhouses,” he said.

Sibu District has one Temenggong, one Pemanca, 17 Penghulus and 75 Kapitans.

Kanowit District has one Pemanca, three Penghulus and three Kapitans.

There are two Kapitans in Selangau District.

Hii said his office will roll out more seminars for community leaders to help them keep abreast of current affairs.

“We will update them on the government’s developmen­t plans,” he added.
