KUCHING: A marine park course for scuba trainers attached with Santubong Camp Sarawak State Co- Curriculum Centre ( PKNS Santubong Camp) was held at Pulau Satang and Pulau Talangtalang near here recently.

According to PKNS Santubong Camp assistant director Shanty Pero, the course was jointly organised by the state Education Department and state Marine Department for the first time.

A total of 17 participants from PKNS Santubong Camp attended the course, facilitated by 16 trainers and crew members of the state Marine Department’s Mutiara Laut ship.

“The aim of the course is to have scuba trainers who are knowledgeable in marine life as well as to upgrade their skills and knowledge in conducting scuba diving activities,” she added.

The importance of taking good care of the marine life ecosystem found in the state, especially at Pulau Satang and Pulau Talangtalang was also emphasised during the course.

“PKNS Santubong Camp is looking forward to work together with the Marine Department in safeguarding and preserving marine life in the waters off the two islands,” said Shanty.

State Marine Department assistant marine officer Husrukhaizam Husin was tasked to head the training team during the course.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Co- Curriculum Centre head Mohammad Sharkawi Mohamad Askar expressed his appreciation to all the parties involved and hoped that such close cooperation could be continued.

“With the support and cooperation from all parties, especially the Sarawak Education Department and the Marine Department, this course would have a positive impact on the participants,” he said, adding that the course could be a medium for marine biodiversity conservation through the dissemination of information and practicality to the participants.
