Big bikers marvel in wonders of Borneo in nature ride

SIBU: Members of the Harley Owners Group ( HOG) are currently on their 10- day ‘Borneo Internatio­nal HOG Rally’, where they get to see and savour various sights along their journey across Borneo.

The convoy, themed ‘ Nature Ride’, is run by the Kuala Lumpur Chapter of HOG Malaysia.

According to HOG Malaysia Kuala Lumpur director TJ Rolan, the journey started on Sept 30 and will end in Kuching this Monday (Oct 9).

“It is run in conjunctio­n with the Kota Kinabalu Internatio­nal Bike Week ( IBW) 2017 in Sabah, and the second Kuching IBW 2017 in Sarawak.

“The feedback from the participan­ts is simply ‘ thrilling’. We’re very impressed with the nature ride from Sabah to Labuan, into Brunei and Sarawak.

“The wonderful nature along the journey across Borneo really captivates our hearts because despite the vast developmen­t taking place, it (nature) is still intact,” Rolan spoke after a ‘miring’ (traditiona­l ritual to seek blessing) at Rumah Dieo Kanyan in Penasu yesterday.

Of the total 120 convoy members, 70 are Harley Davidson owners.

“Of the 70, 85 per cent are new riders,” disclosed Rolan.

The convoy are from all over Malaysia, the UK and the US, Australia, Japan, Sri Lanka, Brunei, Singapore and also Indonesia.

Rolan said another objective of the ‘ Borneo Internatio­nal HOG Rally 2017’ is to show to Harley Davidson USA that it is time to have its Harley Davidson dealership base be set up in Sarawak.

United People’s Party ( UPP) Community Service Board (Sibu) chairman Dato Andrew Wong, UPP Bawang Assan Bumiputera Unit chairman Andrew Shilling, longhouse chieftain Dieo Kanyan and Abdul Razak Salam of Razz Chopper Sibu were also present at the ‘miring’.
