KUCHING: Five Chinese independent schools here yesterday received coupons for the KTS Group of Companies (KTS) and Stihl Charity Car Wash project.

The corporate social responsibility project to raise funds for Chinese-medium education also commemorates the 50th anniversary of KTS’ partnership with the German company.

KTS Trading Sdn Bhd Light Machinery Department general manager Augustine Ling handed over 3,900 car wash coupons to the principals of Chung Hua Middle Schools (CHMS) No. 1, 3, and 4 as well as SM Min Lit Batu Kawa and Serian Public Secondary School.

The five schools are among 23 Chinese independent schools in Sabah and Sarawak to benefit from the project, which will begin in January next year.

“These schools will be helping to sell the coupons. For Kuching zone, the sales of 3,900 car wash coupons worth RM30 each will raise RM117,000, and KTS will top up the amount on a ‘2-to-1’ basis, to give RM233,000 and make up the total of RM350,000,” Ling explained.

The overall project target is to sell 15,000 car wash coupons to raise RM450,000, whereby KTS will contribute RM900,000 to raise a total of RM1.5 million for Chinese independent schools.

“As for hard-to-reach schools in rural areas of both states, which could not participate in the project directly, KTS will give direct donations of RM25,000 to each school, totalling RM150,000,” Ling added.

Among those present were KTS Trading Sdn Bhd manager Tang Lee Woo as well as the principals of CHMS No. 1 – Yap Chong Guan; CHMS No. 3 – Lee Chee Beng; CHMS No. 4 – Kon Shing Yong; SM Min Lit Batu Kawa – Lee Khim Shai; and Serian Public Secondary School – Huang Ping.
