Seoul Stars to play at Stadium Sarawak on Oct 29

KUCHING: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports is asking members of the public to support a charity football carnival involving South Korean celebritie­s scheduled to be held at the Stadium Sarawak by the end of this month on Oct 29.

According to its minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, the carnival is organised by the Kuching Division Football Associat ion ( KDFA) and is endorsed by his ministry.

He also revealed that 19 South Korean celebritie­s will come to Sarawak to play as a team during the carnival and will play two matches during the carnival.

“On that day, the South Korean celebritie­s will play for a team known Seoul Stars. They are scheduled to play against the KDFA team and a team made up of former state team players on that day,” he added during a press conference held at his office at the Masja complex yesterday.

Abdul Karim also noted that each match during the carnival will be played for 15 minutes and followed by performanc­es, scheduled in between each match.

Organised in a festival concept, organisers intend to make the charity football carnival not only a competitio­n but an event full of entertainm­ent as well.

“The main obj ec t ive o f organising this carnival is to promote Sarawak through sports tourism, raise funds for selected charitable bodies and foster good relationsh­ip with Seoul and Suwon,” he said.

Football fans should also note that five out of the 19 South Korean celebrity players for Seoul Stars are former profession­al football players, including former South Korean national players Choi Youngi l , Lee Sangyoon and Choi Jinchul. Gu Jamyung and Son Myunggi are also former profession­al football players.

Other members of the Seoul Stars team are Noh Jihoon, Jung Doohong, Lee Jongsu, Jung Euigap, Jung Junho, Jung Taewoo, Kim Hakdo, Park Sangmyun, Joosuc, Kim Dongyoon, Yoon Taeksang and Kim Donggyun.

Two renowned South Korean singers-Solbi and Kim Jong Seo wil l perform during the carnival.

Abdul K a rim hope t hat members of the public will fill up the Sarawak Stadium and not miss the opportunit­y to watch the South Korean celebritie­s in action suring the carnival.

Also present during the press conference were Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Snowdan Lawan, Tupong assemblyma­n Fazruddin Abdul Rahman, Football Associatio­n of Sarawak (FAS) president Dato Posa Majais and others.
