Explore content devt, local ICT vendors encouraged
MIRI: All information and communications technology ( ICT) vendors should strive to expand their horizons by becoming content developers.
According to Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin, such a move is advantageous in that it can help boost the state’s economy.
“Apart from doing product sales, it is time to look into upgrading yourselves and become content developers – developing simple apps and even going into the development of computer games and software.
“Understandably, training is needed in this exercise and in this regard, I assure you that I will always help and do whatever I can.
“I want to see our young people, especially those who are interested in programming, develop their knowledge further and at the same time, develop the nation in ICT field,” he said at the launch of Sarawak ICT Expo 2017 in Miri Indoor Stadium yesterday.
In this regard, Lee expressed his hope for the Computer Sales and Services Association (CSSA) Sarawak to help enhance the development of ICT further and make Sarawakians more competitive in this field.
The annual event, which enters its 16th edition this year, is jointly run by Miri City Council (MCC) and CSSA Sarawak Miri, with Acer as the main IT sponsor and Telekom Malaysia (TM) as the telecommunications company (telco) partner.
Seventy booths are ready to receive visitors throughout this weekend, as well as lucky draw prizes worth more than RM20,000 up for grabs.
Themed ‘Your Digital Lifestyle Fair’, the expo runs from 11am to 9pm daily. It is offering attractive promotions on the latest IT, audiovisual and mobile products and solutions.
Telco giants Celcom, Digi, Maxis, U Mobile, Tune Talk and Red One are also taking part in the exhibition, while TM is showcasing its latest telco and broadband offerings.
According to event organising chairman Alex Jong, this year his side targets a turnout of over 40,000 visitors throughout the three days, versus the 35,000 recorded last year.
The launch ceremony yesterday was witnessed by Miri Mayor Adam Yii, Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting, CSSA chairman Yong Chee Tak, TM Miri manager Sharifah Bahiyah Wan Ibrahim and Acer Sales & Service Sdn Bhd Miri branch manager Richard Soo.
