Malvern bags silver in Mongolia
KUCHING: State’s bodybuilding pride Dr Malvern Abdul lah has made Malaysia proud by bagging the silver medal from the Lightweight ( 60kg) category at the Ninth World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Federation ( MBPF) World Championships, currently taking place in Ulaan-Baatar, Mongolia.
Tun Tun Aung from Myanmar emerged champion while Rujesh Shahi from Nepal took the bronze medal.
Malvern told The Borneo Post yesterday he was satisfied even though he finished second to Tun in the tussle for gold as he improved his world ranking through his silver medal.
He said it was close fight between him and Tun but the judges gave his rival from Myanmar the nod.
Malvern, 42, qualified for the world’s meet after snatching gold at WBPF Asian Championships 2017 that took place in Seoul, South Korea in August.
In 2015, the lecturer also brought home the silver medal from the world championships; last year, he bagged the bronze.
Malvern was among f ive contestants to reach the final in the Flyweight category.
The other finalists besides Tun and Rajesh were Farshad Aghababaei from Iran, Nguyen Anh Thon (Vietnam).
In the Master category another bodybuilder from Sarawak Buda Anchah finished fifth.
Of the five body builders representing Malaysia in the 9th WBPF World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia which ends on Monday, three are from Sarawak.
The other Sarawak ian competitor in the championship is Awang Mohd Azizul while the other Malaysian bodybuilders were Mohd Syarul Azman Mahen Abdullah and Ahmad Faiz Ariffin who will be competing tomorrow.

Meanwhile, upon receiving the news via social media group app yesterday, Sarawak Bodybuilding Association (SBBA) president Dato Wee Hong Seng expressed his congratulations to Malvern, whom he regarded as ‘a bodybuilding legend already in the making’.
“To me, this achievement is solely owned by Malvern – nobody else could claim credit for it.
“He has been working really hard and personally, I see him as a shining role model to other Sarawakian bodybuilders. Every year, he competes and every time, he improves.
“Again… well done, Malvern. You truly deserve all the commendations that will come your way,” said Wee, who is also deputy president of Malaysian Body building Federation (MBBF).
