Pos M’sia assured of solid support from authorities
KUCHING: The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will always support Pos Malaysia Bhd in its endeavour to provide excellent service without any interruption.
Deputy Minister of Communications and Multimedia Datuk Jailani Johari said this is because the postal, courier and logistic services industries in Malaysia have evolved in line with the rapid growth in the global digital service and e- commerce sectors.
“It is now a trend for entrepreneurs to market their products online to ensure that they can reach the global market without the hindrance of international borders and time zones,” said Jailani during the state-level World Post Day 2017 celebration at the Main Post Office here yesterday.
He added that several initiatives such as the Sabah and Sarawak Pos Transformation Plan (PTPSS) had been carried out to make Pos Malaysia the catalyst for the nation’s economy, especially among micro- entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Together with Pos Malaysia, he said, MCMC had also implemented the ‘Address for All’ programme, as well as mobile post office and community postman services in the rural areas of Sarawak and Sabah under the PTPSS.
He added that besides improving the postal industry, PTPSS also plays a role in improving the people’s socio-economy, especially of those in the rural areas.
“Among the initiatives under PTPSS introduced in Sarawak is the Registered Pos Agent ( EBP) – set up at the 1Malaysia Internet Centres in the rural areas,” said Jailani.
He also listed the selling of envelopes and pre-paid boxes for ‘ PosLaju’ and ‘ Pos Ekspres’ services as among the facilities provided by the agents at these centres.
Pos Malaysia group chief executive officer Datuk Shukrie Salleh, who also spoke at the function, said it was a great honour for the group to celebrate the World Post Day, which falls on

It is said that this celebration began after the formation of the World Post Union in 1874.
“This makes the postal industry one of the oldest in the world,” said Shukrie, adding that Malaysia is ranked 23 globally – ahead of other developed nations such as Australia and Italy, as far as the postal industry is concerned.
Among the activities held in conjunction with World Post Day 2017 was a blood donation drive, children’s colouring competition, a ‘Guess the Number of Stamps’ contest and presentation of excellent service awards.
Among the award recipients were Pos Malaysia personnel Tham Ah Soi for not submitting any medical leave over the past 24 years, and Ating @ Eteng Doro for long service with the company – 41 years and nine months.
Meanwhile, Jailani symbolically flagged- off a convoy from Pos Malaysia Sarawak in front of the Main Post Office as part of the state-level World Post Day 2017 activities.
MCMC Sarawak director Roslam Mohamad, and MCMC Postal and E-Commerce Unit head Mohamed Zaidi Abdul Karim were among those present at the event.
