KUCHING: Sarawak Hun Nam Siang T’ng’s annual rice donation campaign is back from today onwards. Its chairman Tay Boon Sin called on the public to donate bags of rice or other dry food items as well as cash during the campaign period.

He said the charitable body needs a thousand 10kg bags of rice a month not just for the residents of the home, but also for the 377 families on its monthly aid list.

“Those who wish to donate may drop off the items at the home during office hours. Aside from donation, we are also looking for volunteers to help out at the home. We invite those interested to come to the home and lend us a hand,” he said at a press conference here yesterday.

The home currently has 28 residents, comprising 15 males and 13 females aged 60 and above, living on separate floors. They receive free medical treatment from the Sarawak Medical Association while the State Pharmacy Association donates medicine for the home’s clinic. The monthly expense for running the home is estimated at RM50,000, including the salary for eight staff.

As Sarawak Hun Nam Siang T’ng is a non-profit organisation funded solely by public donations, he thanked everyone for their support. For further information on the rice donation campaign, call 082- 332872.
