-

MIRI: Sarawak United People Party ( SUPP) Senadin branch welcomes any local non- governmental organisation here to work with the party in addressing the welfare issues of needy people in the city particularly in the Senadin constituency.

Branch chairman Datuk Lee Kim Shin said support from NGOs is vital in assisting the government in its existing social welfare works.

“Our door is always open to those NGOs who want to work with us to further boost community wellbeing in social and welfare aspects,” he stated to the media when met during a meet-thepeople session at Morsjaya Commercial Centre recently.

On the meet-the people session, Lee who is also Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture disclosed that a group of Dayak community here has shown their interests to work with the party branch to address the social welfare issues in the Senadin area.

He advised them to set up a social welfare association to enable them to focus on specific missions.

“This group of Dayak community told me that they have done a charity work in repairing the house of a hardcore poor recipient in Tudan last week.

“I’m impressed with their spirits and asked them to set up a social welfare association with Registrar of Societies ( ROS) fi rst.

“Then, the party would able to map out a strategy in getting assistance from the NGO in repairing the hardcore poor houses.

“We will provide the material and this group would be the one in helping us to go to the ground to deliver the house repairing projects to the needy people.”

In addition to that, he said the party branch’s community service team was currently working closely with the National Registration Department (JPN) in providing mobile registration services for the constituency.

He revealed that the programme had started in the last two week with the fi rst programme taking place at Rh. Panjang Wak which received 68 identification applications.

A second programme at Rh. Panjang Lambor received more than 50 identification applications.

“We specially arranged for this mobile registration service at the two longhouses to enable those living in surrounding areas who have identification issues to come for the programme at their conveniences.”

He said the next r mobile registration service would be conducted at Pujut Corner on October 17th.

Also present was SUPP Senadin branch publicity chief Eric Chin who is also Lee’s special assistant.
