‘Castle Rock’ makes a splash with Comic-Con trailer
HULU has unveiled the first full trailer for ‘Castle Rock’, an anthology series inspired by select Stephen King stories and produced by the director of ‘Star Wars Episode VII’.
A first look inside the mysterious fictional town of Castle Rock leaves plenty to speculate about ahead of a first season debut in 2018.
André Holland of ‘ Moonlight’ here plays Henry Deaver, a lawyer who specialises in death penalty cases.
The series also stars Jane Levy (‘ Don’t Breathe’), Sissy Spacek (‘Carrie’), Bill Skarsgård (‘ It’), Scott Glenn (‘ The Defenders’), Melanie Lynskey (‘ Heavenly Creatures’), and Terry O’Quinn (‘Lost’).
‘ Lost’ might be an appropriate word to sum up Deaver’s demeanour; “You have no idea what’s happening here, do you?” is the puzzling trailer’s only spoken line of dialogue.
The trailer has been well received after a New York Comic- Con introduction on Oct 8, delivering a taste of the series, dropping in plenty of Stephen King references for fans of the author’s work, and providing glimpses of a sequence of characters and events that are (or, perhaps, are not) connected by more than their occurrence within the same town.
“The fictional Maine town of Castle Rock has figured prominently in King’s literary career: ‘Cujo’, ‘ The Dark Half’, ‘It’ and ‘Needful Things’,” explains Warner Bros TV and production company Bad Robot. “Novella ‘ The Body’ and numerous short stories such as ‘ Rita Hayworth’ and ‘ The Shawshank Redemption’ are either set there or contain references to Castle Rock.”
At the same time, ‘Castle Rock’ the TV series is being cast as an original suspense thriller and a re-imaging that “explores the themes and worlds uniting the entire King canon.”
FX series ‘Fargo’ has found great success in adopting the same setting as the Coen brothers movie it was named after, without focusing on the original’s cast of characters and, upon this indication, Hulu may be about to do the same with ‘Castle Rock’.
Ten episodes are expected though a precise 2018 release date has not yet been announced. — Relaxnews
