-

BAU: A German Shepherd from the state police K9 unit named Zuo Lin sniffed out a suspected vehicle thief hiding in a water tank to evade arrest in a jungle near Kampung Suba Buan at Jalan Bau-Lundu on Oct 11.

The K9 unit from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID)’s state headquarters was called to the site at 1pm when the suspect and an accomplice were seen entering the jungle after abandoning a vehicle that had purportedly skidded from the main road.

State CID chief Dato Dev Kumar said it only took about half- anhour for Zuo Lin and her handler Corporal Saga Giang to find the suspect who was hiding in the water barrel next to a hut in the jungle, about 100 metres from where the stolen vehicle was abandoned.

The suspect is a 22-year- old man released from correctional institution, Sekolah Henry Gurney in Sabah in May this year.

The second suspect escaped after his scent was lost at a river some 70 metres from where the first suspect was found but was arrested around 1.30pm.

The suspect and the stolen vehicle have been handed over to Kuching CID. Police were on the lookout for the vehicle after it was reported missing in front of a coffee shop at Jalan Penrissen by a 44-year- old man around 9am on the same day.
