Navy per­son­nel killed in road ac­ci­dent

LIMBANG: A Royal Malaysian Navy per­son­nel from Me­laka was killed in a road ac­ci­dent on Wed­nes­day af­ter­noon near Lubai bridge here.

Az­man Ayob, 37, from Ban­dar Ba­haru, Me­laka died on the spot when the mo­tor­cy­cle he rode col­lided with a lorry laden with oil palm fresh fruit bunches at 12.43pm on Wed­nes­day.

Ac­cord­ing to the head of Fire and Res­cue Depart­ment, Tawang Lingem, the vic­tim was trav­el­ling from Limbang town head­ing to­wards Miri when he al­legedly en­tered the lane on the op­po­site di­rec­tion and col­lided with the 10- tonne lorry trans­port­ing oil palm fruit bunches from Batu Danau.

“The vic­tim and his mo­tor­cy­cle crashed un­der the lorry and he died on the spot. He suf­fered se­vere in­juries and his left leg was also sev­ered due to the im­pact of the ac­ci­dent. The lorry driver in try­ing to avoid the in­ci­dent had his ve­hi­cle skid­ded and over­turned by the side of the road,” he said

Nine Bomba per­son­nel led by Tawang him­self rushed to the scene upon be­ing in­formed of the ac­ci­dent. Fur­ther in­ves­ti­ga­tion on the case is be­ing car­ried out un­der Sec­tion 41( 1)( A) of the Road Trans­port Act 1987.

The de­ceased leg was sev­ered due to the road ac­ci­dent.
