Unemployed man charged with drug traffickin­g

KUCHING: A jobless man was charged at a magistrate’s court here yesterday for traffickin­g in more than 5kg of methamphet­amine and MDMA pills early this month.

Lee Gnan Hoe, 30, from Sibu was charged with three counts of drug traffickin­g before Magistrate Portia Tham Ong Leng.

He is also facing three other charges for possessing dangerous drugs and Ecstasy pills. No plea was recorded and no bail offered to the accused. He is facing a charge under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for a mandatory death sentence if convicted.

The charge was that Lee had trafficked in 4.724kg and 678g of methamphet­amine and 1,500g of 4-methylened­ioxymetham­phetamine.

He was also charged with possessing 678g and 168g of Ketamine and 450 tablets of Nimetazepa­m.

He allegedly committed the offences between 12.30am and 2.30am at an apartment in Jalan Tun Jugah here on Oct 1. The court fixed Nov 10 for further mention of the case. DPP Ahmad Fariz prosecuted.
