Un­em­ployed man charged with drug traf­fick­ing

KUCHING: A job­less man was charged at a mag­is­trate’s court here yes­ter­day for traf­fick­ing in more than 5kg of metham­phetamine and MDMA pills early this month.

Lee Gnan Hoe, 30, from Sibu was charged with three counts of drug traf­fick­ing be­fore Mag­is­trate Por­tia Tham Ong Leng.

He is also fac­ing three other charges for pos­sess­ing dan­ger­ous drugs and Ec­stasy pills. No plea was recorded and no bail of­fered to the ac­cused. He is fac­ing a charge un­der Sec­tion 39B of the Dan­ger­ous Drugs Act 1952, which pro­vides for a manda­tory death sen­tence if con­victed.

The charge was that Lee had traf­ficked in 4.724kg and 678g of metham­phetamine and 1,500g of 4-methylene­dioxymetham­phetamine.

He was also charged with pos­sess­ing 678g and 168g of Ke­tamine and 450 tablets of Nimetazepam.

He al­legedly com­mit­ted the of­fences between 12.30am and 2.30am at an apart­ment in Jalan Tun Ju­gah here on Oct 1. The court fixed Nov 10 for fur­ther men­tion of the case. DPP Ah­mad Fariz pros­e­cuted.
