Tenby awards Ilmu-Tenby scholarship to top student

-

MIRI: Tenby Schools Miri awarded its first Ilmu-Tenby scholarship to outstanding Year 10 student Phyllis Ong.

Principal Jeanne Denyer said the scholarship is given based on overall academic performance or exceptional talent in the arts or sports.

“Phyllis has proved that she proudly deserves this accolade,” Denyer said in a press release yesterday.

She added that Ong would serve as a role model for other students.

The scholarship is open to Year 10 students (equivalent to Form 4), who are either already studying at Tenby Schools or wish to study at the schools, and covers school term fees for a period of two years.

The press release said many applicants were called for interviews and the final decision was made by a selection committee.

On other developments, Denyer said Tenby Schools Miri now operates dual curriculums – providing pupils with the opportunity to study an international curriculum at primary and secondary level, or a Malaysian national curriculum at Sekolah Sri Tenby, which opened at the same campus in January.

“This will give more options for the community of Miri who might want their children to be educated in the Malaysian national curriculum but would like their children to develop internationalmindedness through exposure to the diversity of Tenby school teachers and students,” she said.

Having been recognised by the Ministry of Education as the only 5-Star school here last year, Tenby Schools Miri continues to strive for excellence with encouraging results in the recent International General Certificate of Secondary Education ( IGCSE) where 35 per cent of students achieved grade A* or grade A.

She attributed that success to the school’s commitment to excellent standards of education as well as the dedication of teachers and hard work of pupils.

Tenby Schools Miri forms part of the Tenby Group of schools comprising international and private schools in Ipoh, Perak; Penang; Setia Eco Park, Shah Alam; Setia Eco Gardens, Johor; and Setia EcoHill, Semenyih.
