Seven Cambodians among beggars, vagrants detained in operation

-

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor Immigration Department detained seven Cambodians including three children in an operation to weed out beggars and vagrants in the Petaling Jaya area on Tuesday.

Its Operations Unit chief, Jaimin Sumpit, in a statement yesterday, said the operation which started at 6.40pm also involved the police and Petaling Jaya City Council.

He said 19 people were checked in the operation, including 10 locals, two UNHCR cardholders and the seven Cambodians.

“Those detained, aged between three months and 76 years, are four women, two boys and the three-month- old baby girl. They have no valid travel documents, thus committing an offence under the Immigration Act 1959/63,” he added.

They were then brought to the Selangor Immigration enforcement for further action. — Bernama
