YTL, Sime Darby plantation among nominees for MDBC Innovation and Sustainabi­lity Awards

KUALA LUMPUR: YTL Corporatio­n and Sime Darby Plantation are among the nominees for the Malaysian Dutch Business Council (MDBC) Innovation and Sustainabi­lity Awards (MISA) on Oct 26.

YTL Corporatio­n was nominated for the Best Service Innovation category in respect of the company’s holistic water treatment to reduce the impact of excess nutrients.

Sime Darby Plantation is in the running for the Best Product Innovation award for its efforts at increasing crop yield potential in palm oil plantation­s.

MDBC’s executive director Marco Winter said the sixth edition of the award would for the first time, include innovation for the integral part it plays in sustainabi­lity.

“MISA will stimulate healthy competitio­n, create exposure opportunit­ies and generate a platform to showcase innovation and sustainabi­lity, something of increasing importance to the Malaysian business community.

“It is also something deeply embedded in the Dutch who have been churning out innovation­s for centuries,” he told reporters at a briefing yesterday.

He added that the overall format of MISA underscore­s the focus of the award programme which is the sharing of best practices which leads to the developmen­t of a more complex and complete understand­ing of innovation and sustainabi­lity.

Netherland­s Ambassador to Malaysia and also the award’s chief judge, Karin Mossenlech­ner said the country had a strong record in the field of innovation to drive its economy, being located in a floodprone area. — Bernama
