YTL, Sime Darby plantation among nominees for MDBC Innovation and Sustainability Awards
KUALA LUMPUR: YTL Corporation and Sime Darby Plantation are among the nominees for the Malaysian Dutch Business Council (MDBC) Innovation and Sustainability Awards (MISA) on Oct 26.
YTL Corporation was nominated for the Best Service Innovation category in respect of the company’s holistic water treatment to reduce the impact of excess nutrients.
Sime Darby Plantation is in the running for the Best Product Innovation award for its efforts at increasing crop yield potential in palm oil plantations.
MDBC’s executive director Marco Winter said the sixth edition of the award would for the first time, include innovation for the integral part it plays in sustainability.
“MISA will stimulate healthy competition, create exposure opportunities and generate a platform to showcase innovation and sustainability, something of increasing importance to the Malaysian business community.
“It is also something deeply embedded in the Dutch who have been churning out innovations for centuries,” he told reporters at a briefing yesterday.
He added that the overall format of MISA underscores the focus of the award programme which is the sharing of best practices which leads to the development of a more complex and complete understanding of innovation and sustainability.
Netherlands Ambassador to Malaysia and also the award’s chief judge, Karin Mossenlechner said the country had a strong record in the field of innovation to drive its economy, being located in a floodprone area. — Bernama
