SUPP welcomes stand of Malay Rulers against extremism

MIRI: The Sarawak United People’s Party ( SUPP) has welcomed the firm stand of Malay Rulers against extremism and urged all Malaysians to heed the call to continue promoting moderation, understanding and tolerance by adhering to the Federal Constitution and Rukun Negara.

In a statement yesterday, SUPP secretary- general Datuk Sebastian Ting said the Malay Rulers’ statement is comforting to all like-minded Malaysians.

“We are indeed very grateful and feel blessed that our Rulers have issued this statement expressing their thoughts and strong stance on this very important matter of unity, peace and harmony for us Malaysians as a whole,” he said.

Ting said it is every Sarawakian’s dream to see the people living in peace, harmony and prospering together, adding that the state is fortunate to have strong understanding, mutual respect, and harmony among all races.

“However, Sarawakians must protect this and never take it for granted,” he said.

By working together, achieving together, and celebrating each other’s festivals, Ting said the people will nurture and maintain such closeness in a diverse society.

He said constant bickering over minor issues could negatively impact the country’s politics, as well as socioeconomic wellbeing.

SUPP viewed as alarming incidents such as the recent cancelling of Oktoberfest, ‘Muslim- only’ launderette, halal trolleys at supermarkets, and nonMuslim students forced to eat in bathrooms during Ramadan.
