Josephians from Class of 77 raise RM102,500 for restoration fund

-

KUCHING: Several ‘old boys’ of St Joseph School have taken up the challenge to raise funds for the restoration of the school’s Mill Hill Block of classrooms, which is deemed unsafe.

This time around, a total of RM102,500 was raised by the Class of 77 in the hope to add on substantially to the total sum collected so far by the Class of 79 and Class of 83- 85.

A cheque for the amount was presented to the Old Josephians Association president, the Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, at the school yesterday.

The Class of 77 who came yesterday included Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak ( Unimas) vice- chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi.

During a cheerful banter over a cuppa at the school canteen, members of the Class of 77 even joked about their concerted efforts having outdone their predecessors.

They hoped that the restoration fund would continue to grow by leaps and bounds so that the restoration project for the Mill Hill Block could be realised soon.

The Old Josephians Association, in a statement, said it expected more show of generosity from the ‘old boys’ to come during the grand reunion dinner this Nov 17, to be held in conjunction with the school’s 135th anniversary celebration.

Those ‘old boys’ interested in attending the event can contact Louis Ng for the tickets, priced at RM 1,000 per table.
