SIBU: It is a tough job to reclaim lost parliamentary seats, but Sarawak United People’s Party ( SUPP) can do it in the next polls as long as it stays united as a consolidated force, says Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing.

“SUPP has a good chance in winning back the seats that it lost in the 13th General Election (GE) – the party just needs to be united.

we can win as a united force,” he spoke at SUPP Nangka’s third anniversary celebration at Joystar Restaurant here on Thursday night.

Ding also highlighted the party’s history – a time when everyone had a common goal.

“The goal then was to have a stronger Sarawak. Today, we have this same goal.”

Expressing similar sentiments, SUPP Bawang Assan chairman Robert Lau Hui Yew said: “More than 50 years ago, SUPP was formed not as a Chinese party, but a multi- racial one even though back then, the majority of its members were Chinese.

“We must go back to the day it was formed, and fight for the rights of Sarawak.”

Lau also stressed the need for SUPP Nangka to work with Nangka assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapaee towards creating a better Sibu.

“Nangka is very lucky because it has a YB ( elected people’s representative) who is a very capable leader. Although he is not from SUPP, he is in the Barisan Nasional,” he said.

The event also hosted SUPP Nangka chairman Chua Beng Seng, SUPP Bukit Assek chairman Chieng Buong Toon, and SUPP Dudong chairman Datuk Dr Soon Choon Teck.
