MIRI: Miri will once again play host to the biggest international tattoo convention in the country next weekend.

Organised by the Sarawak Body Arts Association, the three- day event from Oct 20th to 22nd, will be held at Miri Indoor Stadium.

Association president Felix Dixon yesterday disclosed around 120 tattoo artists from Russia, Philippines, Denmark, Norway, Indonesia, Thailand, Brunei, Singapore and Malaysia will showcase their expertise at the convention.

“We anticipate a large number of body arts or tattoo enthusiasts not only from the country but countries in the region such as Brunei, Singapore and Indonesia converging here in Miri for the three day convention,” he added.

Earlier, Felix and committee members received financial grant for the convention from Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin from his minor rural project ( MRP) fund.

“The convention is a platform to further promote the beautiful and unique Sarawak tribal tattoo. It also part of our contribution and effort to promote Miri as a tourist destination in the region through body arts,” Felix said.

As part of efforts to promote Miri as a tourist destination, the organisers will set up canopies outside the stadium for sales of traditional and modern food and beverage including souvenirs and handicrafts.

Meanwhile, Lee also presented grants totalling RM 24,000 to several NGOs including Curtin E- sport Club, Desa Senadin Neighbourhood Committee, Piasau District Scout Council, Borneo Evangelical Mission Airport Road, Koperasi Ibu Tunggal Miri Berhad and SMK Lutong Alumni Association.
