Sheda delegation in Perth for working visit
KUCHING: Some members of Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers Association ( Sheda) Kuching Branch are in Western Australia for a seven-day working visit, which will conclude this Sunday.
The first two days of the visit included meeting the ConsulGeneral of Malaysia in Perth, and also going to Western Australia Chamber of Commerce and Perth Convention Bureau – both intended to initiate international networking for the delegates. The delegation also paid a courtesy call on Mayor of City of Canning, Paul Ng who is a Malaysian.
Chief executive officer of the city Arthur Kyron did a presentation on the transformation of the city – dubbed ‘ Perth’s Best Kept Secret’, thanks to regeneration and comprehensive redevelopment within two key regeneration areas, namely Canning City Centre and Bentley.
In its effort towards new progressive image, the City of Canning has partnered with the Department of Housing to deliver a comprehensive vision of redevelopment, which provides a genuine opportunity to deliver housing diversity and choice to Bentley. Both projects provide an opportunity for an increase in dwelling density in locations that offer high amenity, excellent access to public transportation in addition to commercial and retail development opportunities.
On providing a completely affordable housing project for the community, Kyron said mixed development is preferred as opposed to a completely affordable housing project to avoid future social issues.
The Sheda delegation also wanted to learn from the local council about its planning procedures, building and infrastructure application processes and land matters.
“The council has the authority to approve all land acquisitions and subdivision applications, in which the process usually takes 60 to 90 days. However, projects worth AU$ 10 million and above would require the approval from the state government,” Kyron said.
The courtesy visit concluded with a tour of ‘Bentley Regeneration Project’ sites with Ng and his team.
