Gavin’s performance dips after rain interrupted play

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Newlycrowned Mercuries Taiwan Masters champion Gavin Kyle Green was unable to conceal his disappointment at the end of Day Two of the 2017 CIMB Classic when he finished in joint 55th position with a two- day total of even-par144.

Green did well on the first nine at TPC Kuala Lumpur in Bukit Kiara, shooting two birdies, on the fifth and eighth, but his performance took a turn for the worse after play was delayed for almost four hours due to rain and lightning.

“It was very frustrating out there. No putts going in and I could not do anything. I was losing patience for sure, because it’s so annoying missing putts. I was hitting it solid and giving myself a lot of looks, just not going in.

“I think the greens kind of changed a little bit after the rain, in terms of break and speed, which kind of messed us up because the last few days we had really nice greens. I mean they’re still nice, but they’re not as fast,” he told reporters yesterday.

After completing yesterday’s round, Green is tied in 55th place with five others including 2015 PGA Tour Barbasol champion, American Scott Piercy and 2017 PGA Tour Barracuda champion, American Chris Stroud.

Green, who currently leads the Order of Merit of the Asian Tour, acknowledged that yesterday’s poor performance should be resolved by tomorrow in order to improve his overall position.

“I think it’s something is not right with the putting, I don’t know what it is. I have got to figure it out before tomorrow.

“I’m not sure whether it’s where I’m aiming or whether it’s line reading. But hopefully I can figure it out because I’m hitting it good, just need some putts to drop,” he said. — Bernama
