SMK St Anthony holds awards presentati­on ceremony

SARIKEI : Spor ts and co - curricular activities are integral parts of education and must be given serious attention by students.

Sarikei Resident Mohd Junaidi Mohidin said this when officiatin­g at SMK St Anthony’s Co - curriculum and Sports Excellent Awards presentati­on ceremony yesterday.

“Participat­ing in sports helps us to strengthen our mentality, competitiv­eness and team spirit. It can develop our leadership skills,” he said, adding that it also contribute­s to health.

“At times, students involvemen­t in sports could be a determinin­g factor in picking the best among the best in academics,” he said.

Junaidi, who is advisor to the school’s Ex- Students Associatio­n, advised the students to allocate reasonable amount of their time for sports.

Out of 274 recipients, 238 were honoured during the ceremony held at the school’s hall.

The other 36 will receive their awards during the graduation ceremony on Oct 28, according to school’s principal Vincent Liong.

Among thos e honour ed yesterday were medallists in the divisional, national and internatio­nal sporting events.

Twelve students comprising six boys and six girls from the lower and upper secondary levels took the Co- curriculum and Sports Excellent Awards, which were divided into three categories - Uniformed Bodies, Club and Associatio­n, and Sports and Games.

Uniformed Bodies’ excellent awards for the lower secondary girls’ and boys’ category were awarded to Chiong Zhen Nee and Brandon Lee respective­ly while the upper secondary-level recipients were Aisha Natasha Zulkipli ( girls) and Ngo Lip Thongg ( boys).

For the Club and Associatio­n Excellent Award, Branda Sim and Randee Nolan Law received the honour in thelowerse­condaryboy­s’ and girls’ category respective­ly, while Vivien Teng and Victor Yii bagged the upper secondary girls’ and boys’ category.

Lower secondary girls’ and boys’ excellent award for Sports and Games went to Audrey Yong and Richard Tiong respective­ly while the upper secondary boys’ and girls’ recipients were Daniel Law and Fion Law.

Among those present were SAS Ex- Students Associatio­n vice chairman Nicholas Wong Bak Ngie and a representa­tive from Sarikei District Education Office Akun Balang.
