Label eggs properly, vendors told

-

SIBU: Egg vendors here are reminded to label eggs clearly according to grades to avoid misleading consumers.

Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (Sibu branch) chief Kasim Mana said displaying price tags alone was inconsequential.

“Eggs must be clearly labelled according to grades such as AA, A, B and C, apart from pricetagging them.

“It is not enough just to indicate the prices. The grades must also be clearly indicated.

“Use pink price tags for eggs with A, B and C grades, which is gazetted under the price control scheme to distinguish them from non-gazetted items.

“Failure to do (put pink price tags) so will result in stern action against the vendors under Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011. An individual offender is liable to a fine up to RM10,000 upon conviction or compounded up to RM5,000. A company is liable to a fine up to RM20,000 upon conviction or compounded up to RM10,000.”

Under the Deevapali Festive Price Control Scheme 2017, Grade A eggs are priced at RM0.39 each, Grade B (RM0.38) and Grade C (RM0.37).

In the hand-outs given to members of the media yesterday, it was stated that the minsitry’s enforcement officers will be at locations with high human traffic such as public markets, ‘tamu’ markets and shopping malls to carry out monitoring and inspection.

This is a continuous action to protect consumers from unscrupulous traders during festive celebrations.

The ministry has also received assistance from ‘Friends of KPDNKK’, People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela), Consumer Squad, and community leaders to assist them in monitoring and providing feedback on the implementation of the scheme.

Consumers are urged to channel their complaints to the ministry through 03-8000 8000 (1Malaysia One Call Centre), toll-free strategic operation and information centre (Pigos) at 03 8882 6088/6245, smart phone application – Ez ADU, or email eaduan@kpdnkk.gov.mye-aduan@ kpdnkk.gov.my, and SMS 15888 by typing “KPDNKK ADUAN <complaints details>.
