Sheda aims to enhance international networking via Perth trip
PERTH: Several members of Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers Association (Sheda) Kuching Branch are on a five-day working visit to Western Australia.
The first two days included visits to the Consul-General of Malaysia here, Western Australia Chamber of Commerce and Perth Convention Bureau to initiate international networking among the delegates.
The visitors also paid a courtesy call on Paul Ng, the Mayor of City of Canning who is a Malaysian-born. During this session at Ng’s office, City of Canning CEO Arthur Kyron did a presentation on its transformation known as ‘Perth’s best kept secret’ through regeneration with redevelopment within two key regeneration areas, namely Canning City Centre and Bentley.
In its effort to give the city a progressive image, the City of Canning has partnered with the Department of Housing to deliver a vision of redevelopment that would provide opportunity to deliver housing diversity and choices to Bentley.
Both projects should provide an opportunity for an increase in dwelling density at locations that offer high amenities, excellent access to public transport in addition to commercial and retail development prospects.
On affordable housing projects for the community, Kyron opined that mixed development would be preferred to avoid future social issues.
The visiting delegates wanted to learn from the local council about its planning procedure, building and infrastructure application process as well as land matters.
“The council has the authority to approve all land acquisitions and sub-division applications which usually take 60 to 90 days. However, projects worth AU$10 million and above require approval from the state government,” Kyron pointed out in his presentation.
The courtesy visit ended with a tour of Bentley Regeneration Project sites with Ng and his team.
